Mia and Kos travelled from Denmark to spend a full day in the Dolomites, choosing to elope in the mountains after completing the legal side of things back home. What they wanted was simple. Time together, incredible scenery, and a day that felt like them.
We started early. Really early.
At 5:30am, we were hiking in complete darkness, head torches on, making our way up into the mountains. As we climbed, we were gradually joined by a handful of landscape photographers, all chasing the same thing. Sunrise.
By the time we reached the top, the cold morning air had settled in, but the energy shifted as the first light started to hit the peaks. Mia and Kos had their first look as the mountains lit up around them. No rush, no audience, just a quiet moment before exchanging vows in one of the most unreal settings you could ask for.
After the ceremony, we made our way down and headed to Lake Braies.
It’s one of the most well-known spots in the Dolomites, and for good reason. They jumped into a rowboat, took it all in, and had some fun with it. It’s at its best early in the morning before the crowds, but it really depends on what kind of backdrop you want for your day.
From there, we kept moving.
Another location, a slower pace. A picnic set up with cake, pizza, and bubbles. Shoes off, sitting in the grass, taking in the scale of everything around them. The kind of moments that don’t feel staged, just lived.
The whole day covered kilometres of hiking, coffee stops along the way, and a lot of laughter. The weather held out perfectly, which in the mountains always feels like a win.
We ended the day at the top of the mountain with pizza and pasta, watching the light disappear before making the final hike down in the dark around 9pm.
No strict timeline. No pressure. Just a full day that unfolded naturally from sunrise to sunset.
Easily one of those days that reminds you why elopements like this work so well.
